Who doesn’t love a good picnic? It’s summer and a light, leisurely time lakeside, down on the river, or at your favorite green space is in order!
First decide what kind of mood you’re in. Feeling lazy? Pack up your favorite quilt, pick up sandwiches and drinks, and hit your favorite outdoor spot to get refreshed by the natural surroundings. Often you can find a summer concert series at a local park or botanical garden that provides both a venue and entertainment!
Want to savor a full experience and have a bit more time to prep? Grab that vintage inspired basket & whip up some gourmet sandwiches, side salads, and desserts to pack along with your favorite plates, goblets, utensils, a lovely quilt and a bottle of wine. Bring a vase and pick up some fresh cut flowers on the way to your destination! And voila! You’re ready for the perfect picnic!
Here are some of our favorite portable eats to pack for your next al fresco food adventure:
Sandwiches
Say goodbye to PB & J’s this time and try one of these gourmet sandwich options that will tickle your taste buds.
If you’d like to keep it more simple, like the French, pick up some baguettes, cut them in half, spread with a light layer of butter, and add some ham or prosciutto. If you want to make it a bit more hardy, add some thick slices of brie. Yum!
Salads
Your spread would not be complete without at least one side salad! Here is a light and delicious Orzo Salad recipe that we love! And what picnic does not involve potato salad? Foodie Crush blog nails it with a few fresh takes on this good old fashioned dish!
Dessert
Something sweet is a must! Brownies, blondies, and lemon bars are all fairly easy to make and easy to pack. Treat yourself to something delectable using one of the recipes linked below!
